Intent

At Bawnmore, we believe every child is an artist. Through art and design, children express ideas, explore new techniques and build confidence. Our curriculum supports children’s wellbeing, relationships and love of learning—the golden thread that runs through everything we do.

Implementation

• Children explore drawing, painting, printing, sculpture and collage

• In Reception, art is embedded into play and exploration

• In Year 1 and 2, skills are built up gradually using sketchbooks

• Children study famous artists and use outdoor learning for inspiration

• They learn and use key art vocabulary and reflect on their ideas

Impact

By the end of Year 2, children:

• Enjoy expressing themselves creatively

• Use a variety of tools and techniques with growing skill

• Talk about their work with confidence

• Show pride in what they make and resilience when things go wrong
