Curriculum

At Bawnmore, our curriculum is designed to spark curiosity, build confidence and create a lifelong love of learning.
We want children to feel excited about coming to school each day—and leave us ready for their next stage with a strong foundation in both learning and life skills.

Our aim is simple:

To develop children who are happy, independent, resilient and ready—ready to learn, ready for the next stage of education, and ready to thrive in the wider world.

This is brought to life through our whole-school mission:

Be Ready. Always Respectful. Work Together Safely.

These values shape everything we do, creating a community where every child feels seen, supported, and celebrated.

Everything we do is underpinned by the Bilton Community Federation REACH principles.
We strive to ensure that every child is:

  • Resilient – able to navigate challenge and change with confidence
  • Emotionally Literate – aware of and able to manage their own emotions and show empathy for others
  • Aspirational – excited by learning, ambitious for themselves and others
  • Communicators – articulate, thoughtful and able to express their ideas clearly
  • Happy – nurtured, supported and celebrated for who they are

Curriculum

Our curriculum is ambitious, inclusive, and thoughtfully sequenced. It builds knowledge and skills step by step, ensuring children make strong progress across all subjects. From the very start, we focus on emotional wellbeing and belonging as the foundation for learning. Carefully chosen texts, meaningful experiences, and a values-driven approach help children understand the world and their place within it.

We prioritise:

  • Strong foundations in reading, writing, and maths.
  • Rich opportunities across the wider curriculum.
  • Memorable experiences that make learning stick.

Everything we do is connected by a golden thread—our belief that strong relationships, emotional wellbeing, and a sense of belonging are the foundation for all learning. This thread runs through every year group and every subject, helping children build not just knowledge and skills, but also the confidence and character to succeed.

Teaching

Teaching at Bawnmore is purposeful, engaging, and tailored to the needs of every child. In Early Years, learning is play-based and hands-on; as children move through school, it becomes more structured while remaining active and stimulating. Teachers use high-quality interactions, positive relationships, and well-sequenced lessons to ensure every child is challenged and supported.

Our approach includes:

  • Emotionally rich stories and themes.
  • Outdoor learning and real-life experiences.
  • ‘Wow!’ moments and trips that bring learning to life.
  • High expectations with the right support for success.

Positive relationships and high-quality interactions are at the heart of our practice. We know our children well and tailor learning to ensure they are challenged, supported and celebrated every step of the way.

Achievement

By the end of Year 2, our pupils leave Bawnmore as confident learners and kind citizens. They have secure foundations in core subjects, a growing understanding of the wider world, and the social and emotional skills to thrive. They are:

  • Articulate, curious, and creative thinkers.
  • Resilient and reflective learners.
  • Empathetic friends and active members of their community.

Above all, they leave with a love of learning that lasts a lifetime.

We are proud of our curriculum and the nurturing environment we provide.

Bawnmore Infant School is more than just a place to learn—it’s a place where children grow, belong and believe in themselves.
